Partners and projects

We believe the best outcomes come from working together. We partner with local organisations, groups and residents to support people and create opportunities. Here are examples of the projects we’re working on and the difference they’re making.

Working with partners across the North East

Bernicia Community works with local businesses, organisations and partners to support people and communities across the North East.

This page showcases just some of the projects we have partnered on, from helping people build skills and confidence to creating opportunities that bring communities together.

If you are a business or organisation in the North East with a project that could support local people or communities, we’d like to hear from you.

Understanding community life in Hirst

We want to understand what matters most to people in our communities.

In Hirst, we have been working in a different way to do this. Local residents took on the role of community researchers, speaking directly to their neighbours and gathering honest feedback about everyday life.

This work was delivered through Northumberland County Partnership. It is a good example of how we can work with partners to better understand local communities and hear directly from the people who live there.

An example of how we can work with partners is the research we’re doing with Northumberland County Partnership. This approach helps us hear real experiences in people’s own words, giving us a better understanding of what is working well and where things could be improved.

We have also worked closely with residents to look at the feedback, identify the main themes and make sure their views are reflected clearly.

The video below shares more about this work and what we have learned so far.

Working with AkzoNobel to support local employment

Bernicia continues to work in partnership with AkzoNobel to help local people build skills, gain experience and move into work.

Through this partnership, our Employability Team supports people to prepare for job opportunities at AkzoNobel’s Ashington site. This includes help with employability skills, work experience, interview preparation and gaining useful qualifications.

The partnership is already helping people take positive steps towards work, with some candidates moving into roles at the Ashington plant.

We’re proud to keep working with AkzoNobel to support local people, strengthen career opportunities and help build the workforce of the future.
