It’s National Care Leavers Month in November, celebrating people who have been looked after by a local authority because of a crisis in their family life.

Our friends at Northumberland County Council and its Virtual School refer young care leavers to us, like Morgan, who they think are ready to progress into training, skills and employment.

Care leavers work with Bernicia’s Employability Team on our Care Leavers Opportunity Pathway to build the lives they want to.

They have one-to-one tailored support to establish trust and understanding of them as young people, building a picture of their employment potential.

It’s a partnership starting to deliver life-changing results for young people who often have to overcome obstacles in their lives that most people don’t have to.

Here’s Morgan’s story. He’s a trainee joiner with Bernicia.

His resilience and determination, backed by Bernicia and Northumberland County Council’s expert help, has enabled him to set down solid foundations for the first time in his life.
